Bryan Snyder was born and raised in Carlsbad, and after taking some time to study art in Northern California, and we’re lucky he came back with Snyder Art.  He’s not only the embodiment of what it means to take pride in your hometown, he contributes to it, doing all he can to encourage creative outlets for others and add to the beauty of our village by the sea.

Bryan is the mastermind behind Carlsbad Crawl, a creative outlet for artists of all kinds.  His belief in the talent hidden within our city is palpable, and his hope is that through the Crawl, those “closet artists,” as he likes to call them, can discover followers, inspiration, and confidence in their work.

Mid-Century Modern

At Skylar’s Home and Patio in Carlsbad, we are always on the lookout for different styles of furniture to introduce to our customers and add to our showroom. This week, we are going to look at mid-century modern design, a very distinct and cool style that had a huge influence on the design world of the past century!

Mid Century Modern is a design movement that created a distinct style of furniture, design, and architecture that took place from roughly 1933 to 1965. Mid-century design thrived in Europe, especially Scandinavia, and some of the most famous names in design came out of this time period. A few of the most well known designers of mid-century design include American pair Charles and Ray Eames, Finland’s Eero Saarinen, Florence Knoll, Herman Miller, Richard Neutra and George Nelson. The work of these designers was so influential that many of their iconic designs are still being produced for sale today.

While mid-century modern design has stayed popular over the years, the past decade has shown a major comeback for mid-century modern. Over 60 years later, authentic mid century modern furniture has only increased in demand, and many pieces come with a hefty price tag. Despite being rooted in the mid-century as its name suggests, this style has been an inspiration for cutting edge modern design that is being introduced today. Because of this link between mid-century modern and modern design, these two styles usually compliment each other when mixed together.

This week, we are going to look at mid-century modern design, a very distinct and cool style that had a huge influence on the design world of the past century!

So what exactly are the benchmarks of mid-century modern design? Mid-century design has a streamlined look that creates a sculptural element to the pieces. Clean simple lines are a feature that dominate this type of style, as well as non-traditional man-made materials such as fiberglass, plastic, Plexiglas, and Lucite.
